God's Work, Inc. was formed in 2003 as the umbrella company for The Shepherd's Inn.  Later, The Shepherd's Shop, a thrift store which supports the homeless shelter, was added.  The corporation is a 501c3, tax exempt faith-based organization.

The shelter is supported by contributions from local citizens, donations to the thrift store, and  donations received from churches and other organizations.

Each potential guest is interviewed by Doug, drug tested, and background checked for criminal record to maintain the safety of all the guests. There is no charge to stay at the shelter except to attend the church of his/her choice, attend nightly devotions and follow a set of rules which are read at the time of the interview. Each is encourage to work and save 80% towards getting financially set to transition toward being on his/her own.

Doug and Jackie have been blessed to have this opportunity to help the less fortunate and welcome volunteers to join in.  For more information, call (434) 447-2736.

35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
